Pasadena Water and Power issued a statement revising details of an earlier incident at its power plant initially reported by police as the grand theft of copper wire.
The incident occurred sometime before the 4 p.m. equipment failure and subsequent outages on Friday, September 6.
PWP officials now say that the incident involved a heavy-duty extension cord containing copper, not copper wire itself.
The statement does not confirm if the item was stolen, but said only that a suspect attempted to remove it.
No suspect description was provided.
Utility officials also said that the plant has a number of safety protocols in place including security and restricted access.
PWP staff reported the incident to the police and “as always PD was a responsive partner.”
