Pasadena Water & Power to Offer Laundry-to-Landscape Greywater Program

Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) is launching its Laundry-to-Landscape (L2L) Greywater Program, offering workshops, onsite support, and incentives for residential L2L system installations.

With a L2L greywater system, homeowners can choose to irrigate their landscape when laundering their clothes, and save from 9,000 to14,000 gallons of water per year, or about $55 to $86 per year for a typical residential customer.

The L2L program is open to PWP single-family residential customers. PWP will offer monthly, in-depth training workshops starting September 12 to help customers understand how to install a greywater system. Workshop attendees will also receive an $80 voucher toward the purchase of the L2L greywater system components, as well as resources for onsite technical assistance. The typical costs for parts for a L2L system range from $120 to $250, depending on the size of a resident’s landscape. PWP has teamed with Landscape Warehouse, Pasadena-based retailer, to redeem the voucher for all the necessary supplies.

PWP has also partnered with Greywater Action, an industry leader in greywater education, to teach the monthly training workshops. Experienced instructors will lead participants step-by-step through the design process and will demonstrate how to tailor a system to fit their residence. While only L2L greywater systems are legal to install without a permit, workshop instructors will also cover how to comply with California’s rules for using more complex greywater systems.

“With the previous success of the turf removal incentive program and drought-tolerant landscaping classes, we are pleased to offer customers another tool to help them do their part to conserve water,” said Eric Klinkner, PWP Interim General Manager.
