The Pasadena Commission on the Status of Women will appoint a parliamentarian for the current fiscal year when it meets Wednesday evening at the Jackie Robinson Community Center.

The parliamentarian serves as the commission’s procedural expert, ensuring meetings follow proper rules of order and advising on protocol matters. Commission Chair Maura Harrington Roggero will lead the appointment process.

The position represents one piece of the commission’s ongoing governance structure. The seven-member body advises the Pasadena City Council on issues affecting women across the community.

Wednesday’s agenda also includes approval of work plan updates for December. The commission will review progress on two main objectives: advising decision makers and strengthening community partnerships.

Recent commission activities have focused on equal pay advocacy and domestic violence awareness. Members held a listening session in September that drew community participation. Attendees shared input on women’s safety and city services.

The commission has also drafted a letter urging adoption of the California Equal Pay Pledge. That initiative aims to reduce wage disparities affecting women, particularly women of color and working mothers.

Two commission seats remain vacant. One represents District 5, while the other is a mayoral appointment. Any City Council member may nominate candidates to fill the openings.

The commission was established to examine conditions affecting women in Pasadena. It recommends policies and programs promoting equal rights and opportunities.

Current commissioners represent six of seven council districts plus one at-large seat. They volunteer their time to study issues ranging from economic equity to public safety.

The public may comment during the meeting or submit written correspondence in advance. Translation services are available with 72-hour notice.

The meeting takes place at 1020 North Fair Oaks Avenue. The commission meets monthly on the first Wednesday. Regular meetings begin at 6 p.m.
