Arroyo Parkway, Westbound Holly Street to Stay Closed Through October as Metro Finishes Bus Station

Pasadena’s Arroyo Parkway will remain closed to through traffic between Union and Holly streets, as will westbound Holly Street, while paving and striping expected through the end of October wrap up, Metro said.

Construction at Holly Street and Arroyo Parkway is in its final stages as Metro finalizes preparation of enhanced bus stations for its North Hollywood to Pasadena Bus Rapid Transit line, according to a Metro update that Councilmember Justin L. Jones shared with District 3 residents in a Sept. 25 newsletter.

Heavy construction at Pasadena’s four station sites is expected to be completed in November, Metro said.

“This week, my office received several inquiries related to Metro’s North Hollywood to Pasadena Bus Rapid Transit construction schedule,” Jones wrote in the Sept. 25 newsletter.

Work in Pasadena began in late April and is active at Hill Avenue and Green Street, Colorado Boulevard and Lake Avenue, Colorado Boulevard and Los Robles Avenue, and Holly Street and Arroyo Parkway, according to Metro.

Metro’s original work notice for the Holly Street and Arroyo Parkway site anticipated about two months of construction beginning the week of April 20, with closures in place around the clock until the work was complete. That notice closed westbound Holly Street between Arroyo Parkway and Raymond Avenue and barred left turns from Arroyo Parkway onto Holly, while keeping access open to the Holly Street Village apartments.

Metro describes the work as reconstruction of roadways, sidewalks and ADA-accessible curb ramps to support enhanced bus stations. Crews generally work weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with occasional night work.

“Access to local businesses will be maintained throughout construction,” Metro said, adding that schedules are subject to change.

The 19-mile line will connect North Hollywood, Burbank, Glendale, Eagle Rock and Pasadena with zero-emission electric buses and 22 enhanced stations, according to Metro, which expects construction to be complete in late 2027, ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games. A Pasadena staff report lists 20 stations.
