Pasadena’s July 4 Goes High-Tech and Full Flavor at the Rose Bowl

The whir of drones will replace the 4th of July Ka-Boom

The Rose Bowl is reinventing its Fourth of July celebration with a synchronized drone light show and a three-day global street food festival called FoodieLand.

The event kicks off Friday afternoon with an expansive open-air market featuring about 200 food and craft vendors.

The culinary lineup spans from birria tacos and Korean corn dogs to mochi donuts and vegan banh mi, offering a worldwide taste experience. Live music, games, and artisan pop-ups will complement the food scene throughout the weekend.

The highlight comes at approximately 9 p.m. with Pyro Spectaculars’ innovative drone show. Replacing traditional fireworks, hundreds of drones will create an eco-friendly aerial display above the Arroyo.

The show, crafted by the team behind Dodger Stadium and Macy’s 4th of July fireworks, promises patriotic patterns and high-flying animations visible only to stadium attendees.

“It’s obviously an Independence Day-themed show,” said Pyro Spectaculars Vice President and Show Producer Paul Souza. “With concerns over fire risk and air quality, this is a modern take on celebrating freedom—with a lighter footprint and just as much ‘wow.'”

Attendees can indulge in a diverse array of culinary delights, cultural performances and interactive activities for all ages, making it an attractive option for food lovers and families over the holiday weekend.

General admission to FoodieLand is $12, with children under five admitted free. The ticket includes access to both the food festival and the drone show.

Event tickets are available only through Eventbrite and must be bought before you arrive at the event.

The festival runs from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, and from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with free parking available.

This reimagined celebration offers a distinctly 21st-century approach to the traditional summer holiday—featuring drones in the sky and global street food on the ground.

Tickets are available now, here.
