
The charitable foundation that supports Pasadena City College on Friday announced the election of two new members of its Board of Directors and three new additions to its Advisory Board.
Geoff Baum and William L. Krantz have joined the Pasadena City College Foundation as the organization’s newest Board of Directors members, the Foundation said in a written statement.
Baum serves as executive director at Michelson Philanthropies,as well as executive director for the Michelson Center for Public Policy, according to the PCC Foundation.
“Baum brings more than three decades experience in senior leadership positions with nonprofit, education, and news organizations, including the Milken Institute, the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine and Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, Claremont McKenna College, the Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands, and C-SPAN,” the statement said.
He also spent 12 years serving on the California Community Colleges Board of Governors, including two terms as president, the PCC FOundation added.. He was elected to the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees three times, serving as president twice, and has also served as a member and president of the Pasadena Community Access Corporation.
“It was an honor to be asked to consider joining the PCC Foundation board,” Baum said. “The good work done by the Foundation makes an enormous difference, especially during this time when students and their families are suffering.”
“As a Foundation board member, I am eager to support the development of innovative new programs that benefit students while also helping marshal the community support and financial resources needed to meet the challenges of today and in the future,” according to Baum.
Krantz retired in 2005 after 37 years in the investment management business, according to the foundation statement. He graduated PCC in 1966 before continuing on with his education.
He is a longtime member and past president of the [Chartered Financial Analyst] Society in Los Angeles and has co-directed the CFA exam preparation program jointly sponsored by USC for the past 13 years, the Foundation said. He instructed the portfolio management curriculum for 12 years.
“Krantz served as a Board of Regents member at California Lutheran University for twelve years,” the statement said. “No longer on the governing board, he continues to serve as a member of the investment committee. He has previous board experience with the national and local Red Cross and is actively engaged in his tenth year as a trustee of Solheim Senior Community in Eagle Rock.”
Krantz said he was happy to be back at PCC.
“For me, it’s about giving back what PCC gave me in my formative years,” he said. “My family has been in the Pasadena area for over sixty years. I went to Pasadena public schools; I started my career here. Now I have the opportunity to sit on the board at a school I love, which is a real honor.”
In addition to the two new Board of Directors members, the PCC Foundation also announced the appointment of
PCC Alumnus Preston Howard of Rose City Realty; ACT political organization Director Jon Fuhrman; and attorney and PCC adjunct professor Estela Richeda to the Foundatin’s Advisory Board.
All three have previously completed terms on the Board of Directors.
