PCC Students to Access Laptops and iPads in Library

Pasadena City College students can now access and check out 15 new MacBook Air laptops, 15 Lenovo PC laptops and five iPads in the Shatford Library.

“We are interested in seeing how students use mobile technology to support their studies,” Pearl Ly, Interim Assistant Dean of Library Services at PCC, told the Courier. “With the help of the Information Technology department, we have also added 15 new MacBook Air laptops and 15 Lenovo PC laptops.”

The students can check out the laptops for two hours at time, while the iPad can be checked out for a maximum of two days, PCC Systems Librarian Dan Haley told the newspaper.

“We felt that these periods would allow students a reasonable amount of time to use them to complete assignments, but still allow others to have a turn,” Haley told the Courier. “We know that not all of our students can buy these for themselves, so the two departments have purchased them for general use.”

“We’ve tried to set up rules for loaning them out so that a maximum number of students can use them,” Haley added.
