A collision between a police vehicle and a civilian car resulted in injuries to both drivers Tuesday morning, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Matt Campeau.

The collision occurred at 7:04 a.m. at the intersection of El Molino Avenue and Corson Street, Campeau said, when a GMC Acadia collided with a marked police vehicle on routine patrol in the intersection.

Campeau said the police vehicle was not actively responding to a call at the time of the accident.

The driver of the GMC, identified as a 59-year-old Pasadena man, sustained moderate injuries, including a broken nose and complaints of back pain, according to Campeau.

The police officer involved in the collision suffered a head contusion, pain in both knees and shins, and an abrasion to his left hand, Campeau said.

Both the GMC driver and the police officer were transported to a local hospital for treatment by the Pasadena Fire Department, Campeau reported. He added that both vehicles sustained major damage in the collision.

The Pasadena Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash, according to Campeau.
