Pasadena Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Blanco issued a statement Friday afternoon about an incident at Pasadena High School yesterday.
“Following an online threat at Pasadena High School on Thursday, September 26 that came to the attention of the FBI and the Pasadena Police Department, immediate action was taken. During the threat assessment that occurred on the campus, the student involved became overwhelmed and uncooperative, walking away from the officers. For her safety and the safety of others, officers restrained her.
“I’ve been in communication with officials of the PPD and the City of Pasadena and initiated discussions to coordinate and improve response to incidents on PUSD campuses.
“We value our ongoing partnership with law enforcement to keep our students and schools safe. The goal of both PUSD and PPD is to verbally de-escalate conflicts and ensure that students are treated with respect and compassion. We are committed to working together with PPD and the City in the best interests of our students and staff.
“Counseling is available to support students and staff if needed.
“For the safety and security of our schools, we continue to encourage our students, staff, and families that if they see something that concerns them to say something and report it immediately to authorities.
“I appreciate your understanding and support as we manage this complex situation.”
Pasadena Now has not viewed video of the incident but is investigating the matter.
