Rate of COVID-19 Infection in Pasadena Continues Gradual Decline

Hospitalizations across L.A. County decline for 5 days straight

The rate of COVID-19 infections in Pasadena has slowly but steadily declined over the past nine days, Pasadena Public Health Department records show.

Officials documented 23 new cases of the virus on Monday, preceded by 10 cases on Sunday and 19 on Saturday, according to city data. No deaths were reported.

In total, Pasadena has seen 12,723 COVID-19 infections and 354 fatalities.

The average number of infections detected in the city each day declined to 21.7, according to PPHD data. The rate has declined steadily each day since Aug. 21.

Huntington Hospital representatives reported treating 27 COVID-19 patients on Monday, with people being treated in intensive care units.

The Pasadena Unified School District reported 18 new infections among students and three among staff members between Tuesday and Friday, raising the total numbers of infections detected among students since Aug. 1 to 61, and the total number of cases among staff to 24.

Officials at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 2,339 new infections and six fatalities on Monday, which brought the countywide pandemic totals to 1,405,387 cases of COVID-19 and 25,251 deaths.

Just under 1,690 people were hospitalized with the virus on Monday, representing five straight days of declines, county Public Health said in a written statement.

Monday’s test positivity rate was 2.4%, according to the agency.

State public health officials announced 14,968 new infections and 28 fatalities on Monday, bringing the statewide pandemic totals to 4,213,057 COVID-19 cases and 65,271 deaths.

The state’s average weekly positivity rate dipped to 4.7%, compared with 5.4% as of Friday, according to the California Department of Public Health Data.

As of Monday, L.A. County represented 33% of California’s COVID-19 infections and 39% of the state’s fatalities.
