Regal Entertainment Group, the largest movie theater chain in the United States, announced Thursday that it would reopen the former ArcLight movie theater in The Paseo shopping center in downtown Pasadena.
ArcLight Cinemas and Pacific Theatres chains announced a year ago this month that their theaters, which had shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, would never be reopening.
Regal said it has entered into a lease agreement with Onni Group to operate the 14-screen theater.
The company said it will be announcing grand opening details soon including promotional offers and an official opening date for Regal Paseo.
“The Paseo development has long been the entertainment destination for Pasadena; however, since 2020, it has been missing one important element, a state-of-the-art theatre.” said Mooky Greidinger, CEO of Cineworld, parent company of Regal. “In collaborating with our new partners at Onni Group, we are proud to be the new operators of Regal Paseo with exciting upgrades to the theatrical experience forthcoming for this destination location.”
The reopening of the former ArcLight would bring about the second “movie theater rescue” in Pasadena after Landmark Theatres entered into a long-term lease agreement for Laemmle’s Playhouse 7 movie house in May, 2022 after the chain of art movie house founded Carl Laemmle in 1938 faced closure in Pasadena.
Regal said the new theater will open in late 2023. The company also said that it will be offering a variety of grand opening promotions, including discounted tickets and free popcorn.

Thank you. The Paseo doesn’t have a draw unless you want to eat at one of the many restaurants and most are terrible. Having a movie theatre will sure make going to the Paseo nice again.
