Active adults ages 50 to 99+ can sign up for 14 athletic events from archery to tennis at the 2023 Pasadena Senior Games, which will take place from May 21 to July 15. Registration begins March 20 and is fee-based.

The Pasadena Senior Center organizes the games yearly to promote physical activity and healthy living among older adults. Previous competition experience is not required.

The games feature Olympics-style competitions ranging from swimming to shotput. Last year, Diana Charles won the women’s freestyle swimming contest in the 50-to-59-year-old division and Alan Rosen won the men’s shotput contest in the 85-to-89-year-old division.

“Active older adults know exercise and physical activity are the keys to a long and healthy life,” said Akila Gibbs, executive director of the Pasadena Senior Center. “These remarkable athletes, whether they are experienced or not, are serious competitors.”

According to research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Research Center, physical activity can improve physical, emotional and social health scores and reduce hospitalization risk for older adults.

To register for the games, visit www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org and click on Activities and Events, then Senior Games. For more information, email sports@pasadenaseniorcenter.org or call 626-685-6755.

Volunteers of all ages are also welcome to help with various tasks such as registering athletes, timing, scoring and manning water stations. To volunteer, email or call the above number.
