You can take one name off the political chess board this season.

Former District 1 Councilmember Jacque Robinson told Pasadena Now on Tuesday that she will not seek the soon to be vacant state senate seat currently held by Anthony Portantino.

“Right now my focus is on my family,” Robinson said. “I did consider it and I even had some positive traction as I spoke to people. As of now focus is on my daughter Sora and our family.”

The 25th Senate District contains Pasadena, Glendale, Alhambra, Altadena, Arcadia, Claremont, Glendora, La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta-Montrose, Monrovia, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, San Marino, Sierra Madre, South Pasadena, Temple City, Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, and San Antonio Heights.

Robinson’s entrance into the race was bandied about as a sure thing over the past several weeks by some local election watchers.

But that was never the case.

Shortly after the Black History Parade, she told Pasadena Now she had not yet made up her mind about running.

Politicos began jumping into the race last month, including Alhambra Councilmember Sasha Renée Pérez and Pasadena resident and former Sierra Madre Mayor John Harabedian and Crescenta Valley Town Council Member Elizabeth Ahlers.
