Rose Bowl Needs More City Council Oversight – City Manager

Published on Sunday, October 27, 2013 | 8:44 am

City Manager Michael Beck and Assistant City Manager Steve Mermell recommended to the Finance Committee the increase in the City Council’s oversight of the Rose Bowl Operating Company on Monday, October 25.

The recommendations were made through Rose Bowl’s governance report to the Finance Committee and the corporation’s presentation of recently released Rose Bowl Business Plan, the Pasadena Star-News reported.

Beck and Mermell suggested that Rose Bowl should provide quarterly reports to the City Council, monthly reports to the finance director and Finance Committee and to develop a policy for capital project construction management to be approved by the City Council, the newspaper reported.

“These recommendations are intended to enhance oversight,” Mermell told the newspaper. “We operate now in a post Bell, post Vernon, post Coliseum world and there is tremendous interest in public sector salaries. This provides one additional level of transparency.”
