Liu, a first-generation, low-income student who graduated as valedictorian from PCC, has worked on the local, state, national, and international levels to advance accessible and affordable higher education.
He said he is running for the PCC Board of Trustees to build a PCC that works for everyone.
Liu’s statement lists endorsements of more than 40 local elected officials, including mayors, school board presidents, and leaders from every city in Area 6.
In a statement explaining his decision to run, Liu said that he is grateful to PCC for the life-changing path it paved for him and that all students deserve the same chance.
He believes that higher education is currently facing unprecedented challenges, from declining enrollment to rapidly increasing costs for students, and that PCC needs leadership that understands the challenges and opportunities of the new economy.
Liu is an attorney and nationally recognized advocate for accessible higher education. He earned his bachelor’s from Yale College, his Master of Science in Higher Education from the University of Oxford, and his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School.
Liu has been actively involved with PCC over the last decade, speaking at local K-12 schools about higher education, mentoring community college students through PCC’s Transfer Center, and serving on the board of PCC’s Asian American & Pacific Islander Advisory Committee.
