Pasadena Fire and Police Department officials have issued comprehensive safety guidelines for overnight campers planning to attend the 136th Rose Parade on Jan. 1, 2025, along the 5½-mile route.

The city will permit overnight camping only on Tuesday, Dec. 31, with spectators allowed to claim sidewalk positions starting at noon that day, a city statement said.

In a significant change from previous years, Colorado Boulevard will close to vehicles at 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, remaining closed until 2 p.m. on Jan. 1.

Small, professionally-manufactured barbecues must be elevated one foot off the ground, positioned 25 feet from buildings, and equipped with fire extinguishers. All campfires are prohibited, the statement said.

Spectators may move from the curb to the blue “Honor Line” at 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, but must not advance beyond this boundary.

Minors under 18 may only be present on the parade route between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. if accompanied by an adult supervisor, according to the regulations.

Officials have instituted a complete ban on smoking, including cannabis and vaping devices, and prohibited open containers of alcohol along the parade route.

The Pasadena Fire Department warns that parade day typically generates twice the number of emergency calls, primarily involving hypothermia, illegal burning, and alcohol-related incidents.

City officials have banned tents, sofas, boxes that could serve as seating, and the sale or distribution of horns along the 5½-mile parade route.

Emergency officials urge attendees to dress warmly for cold weather and have established emergency numbers: 911 for immediate assistance and (626) 744-4241 for non-emergencies.

A temporary flight restriction will be in effect, with authorities warning that anyone attempting to operate drones faces potential fines, arrest, or imprisonment.

Police K-9 teams will patrol Colorado Boulevard, and officers will quickly remove individuals who violate laws or disturb the peace, officials stated.

Visit Pasadena has established a Visitor Hotline at (877) 793-9911, operating 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekends.
