Second-Alarm Fire Displaces One Resident From Two-Story Pasadena Home

A second-alarm fire in the chimney and attic areas of a large two-story house in the 800 block of Canon Drive near the Langham Huntington Hotel on Friday caused an estimated $600,000 in damage and displaced one resident, according to Lisa Derderian, Pasadena’s chief communications officer.

No injuries were reported, Derderian said.

The Pasadena Fire Department was dispatched at 12:29 p.m. to a report of a residential structure fire, Derderian said. Heavy smoke was showing from the front of the house when the first unit arrived.

Crews found the blaze in the second-floor chimney and attic areas, she said.

A second alarm was requested, bringing more resources to assist with fire suppression and support operations, Derderian said.

The fire was knocked down at 1:43 p.m.

Assisting agencies included the Pasadena Police Department, which provided traffic control; Pasadena Water and Power; So Cal Gas Co.; and the San Marino, Alhambra, San Gabriel, Burbank and Sierra Madre fire departments, she said.

Property saved was valued at an estimated $3.1 million, Derderian said.

It is unknown whether the arson investigators who were called to the scene had determined the cause of the fire.
