Soccer once again returns to the Rose Bowl when the Los Angeles Football Club takes on CF Monterrey in the quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup at 7:30 p.m. in the Rose Bowl.

The Leagues is a new North American soccer tournament . During the tournament, the Major League Soccer and LIGA MX (the top professional soccer in Mexico) pause their respective league seasons from July 21 to August 19 to determine the three clubs that will qualify for the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup.

The CONCACAF Champions Cup is an annual continental club football competition organized by CONCACAF. The tournament features clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

The winner automatically qualifies for the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Last month, two soccer matches drew huge crowds to the iconic stadium.

The international friendly match between Spanish club Real Madrid and Italian club AC Milan drew a crowd of 70,814 in late July — about 10,000 more than the stadium originally expected.

On July 4, 82,110 attended the LA Galaxy-Los Angeles Football Club match.

It is not known how many tickets have been sold for Friday’s event.

The high attendance numbers continue to be great news for the Rose Bowl Operating Company (RBOC) which is looking for ways to increase stadium revenue.

The fiscal year 2024 budget plan for the Rose Bowl Operating Company projected a loss of $2.8 million. The RBOC’s operating reserves would cover the loss.
