The South Pasadena football team scrimmaged with Japan’s Ritsumeikan Uji High School team last Friday, August 19, as they prepared to kick off their season this week.
Aside from South Pasadena and the Japanese team, Mark Keppel and Ontario Christian also took part in the pre-season scrimmage at South Pasadena’s Roosevelt Field.
The four teams in the cooperative scrimmage saw how they will fare in their respective leagues once they begin their seasons, practicing full contact football in a realistic game atmosphere.
South Pasadena’s Tigers first took on the Mark Keppel Aztecs before switching on to the Ontario Christian Knights. They ended the day’s campaign with four drives against the Ritsumeikan Uji Panthers, originating from Kyoto.
The Japanese Panthers come to the U.S. yearly to train with American teams, although the tour this year had to be shortened because of the wildfires in Southern California. The South Pasadena scrimmage Friday was the end of a two-week trip for the Japanese.
The Tigers kick off their season Friday, August 26, at Rosemead High School.
