Sunny skies and warm temperatures Friday will give way to stormy weather early next week, forecasters said. The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard reported that a strong Pacific storm system is expected to arrive Sunday night, bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms, mountain snow and strong winds to Pasadena and surrounding areas.

Friday will be clear and mild, with highs near 73 degrees and light winds shifting from northeast to southwest. Tonight will remain clear, with lows around 46 degrees.

Saturday will be mostly sunny with highs near 71 degrees. Clouds will increase by evening as the storm system approaches. Sunday will be cooler, with highs near 66 degrees and gusty winds up to 15 mph. Rain is likely late Sunday night, forecasters said.

The heaviest rainfall is expected Monday and Monday night, with totals of 1 to 3 inches possible in valleys and up to 5 inches in the mountains. Thunderstorms are possible, and forecasters warned of flooding and debris flows in burn areas. Showers will continue Tuesday and Wednesday, though lighter in intensity. Thursday is expected to be cold but mostly dry, with highs near 59 degrees.

The National Weather Service cautioned residents to prepare for flooding, debris flows and possible travel disruptions. Interstate 5 and other mountain routes may experience closures due to snow.
