Two Pasadena police officers sustained minor injuries Thursday morning after confronting a man who was allegedly chasing an Old Pasadena guide while under the influence of a controlled substance, according to police.

Officers responded to the area of Fair Oaks Avenue and Union Street at approximately 6:01 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, where they attempted to detain the suspect, Lieutenant Matt Campeau of Pasadena Police said.

As officers arrived on scene and attempted to detain the suspect, he began physically resisting and assaulting the officers, Campeau said.

One officer deployed their Taser to subdue the suspect, which allowed them to take him into custody without further incident, according to Campeau.

The suspect was identified as Joshua Dayes, 39, a transient. He was booked for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, Campeau said.

One officer sustained a contusion to the right side of his face while a second officer complained of pain to his shoulder, Campeau said. Both officers were treated at the scene for their injuries.

The Old Pasadena guide who was initially being chased was not injured in the incident, according to Campeau.
