More than 2,000 community members, friends and neighbors dined, danced and donated as the Pasadena Heritage Colorado Street Bridge Party returned from a  five-year, pandemic-caused absence.

Throngs filled the west end of the Bridge and park against a background of throbbing music and the tantalizing aromas of food being cooked.

The party, created in 1978 as a biannual event, serves to honor and celebrate the historic Pasadena icon and Pasadena Heritage’s efforts to preserve it and other local architectural legacies while raising funds to continue preservation efforts.

An elated Sue Mossman, Executive Director of Pasadena Heritage, said, gazing out at the crowd, “Everyone seems to be having a brilliant time, and we are so happy that the party is back. We’re proud and pleased.”

Mossman added, ‘We’ve all just been so excited and gratified by all the support, and it’s just really fun to be doing this again.”

The event featured a custom car show, numerous musical stages, and food from a number of local eateries including Robin’s Wood Fire BBQ, Mijares Mexican Restaurant, Robin’s Wood Fire BBQ, and Pam’s Sweet Shack and Funnel Cakes along with liquid refreshments from Craftsman Brewing and Eagle Rock Brewery.

The Subs manned the entrance stage at Colorado at Orange Grove, while Art Deco and Upstream performed on the Park Stage. Further along the bridge, longtime Pasadena favorites Mercy and the Merkettes played soul oldies while the Jimbonaires offered surf instrumentals and Tenscore served up classic heavy metal tuneage.

“I feel great about this celebration,” said Mayor Victor Gordo, “It’s an opportunity to celebrate this great architecture in the most beautiful setting.”

Gordo added, “It’s also an opportunity to celebrate our city and our community. People from all walks of life are here, just enjoying the natural beauty and our beautiful bridge.”

Longtime Pasadena restaurateur Robin Salzer sounded jubilant.

“What a perfect time for this to come back.  We’re going through a lot of changes in the city, and it’s no better time to have a party, and nothing brings the community together like food. You’re looking at “The Pasadena Way,” right here.”

The next Colorado Street Bridge Party is tentatively scheduled for 2025.
