The Tournament of Roses Bandfest Day 2 is set to take place today at Pasadena City College, featuring two distinct performances that showcase the unique talents and musicianship of the selected Rose Parade marching bands.
Yesterday’s Day 1 performances saw families from around the country and some parts of the world fly in to watch relatives perform. Bandfest Day 1 kicked off Friday with a historic flyover of planes in a V formation, marking the first time the event has begun in such a manner.
A highlight of the day was the performance by the Na Koa Ali’i’ Hawaii All State Marching Band. Despite a challenging year for some members due to a devastating fire in Maui, the band’s spirit remained unbroken.
Today crowds will likely face wet weather. The National Weather Service is predicting rain showers. The NWS said the “chance of precipitation is 100%” with precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Saturday’s first event, Bandfest 2, begins at 10:00 am, with a pre-show at 9:30 am. The lineup includes the Pasadena City College Herald Trumpets, known for their resounding brass melodies, and the Pasadena City College Tournament of Roses Honor Band, celebrated for their precision and flair. Other bands include Westlake High School’s Chaparral Band, the Albertville High School Aggie Band, Castle High School’s “Castle Marching Knights,” Pulaski High School’s Red Raider Marching Band, and the Jenks Trojan Pride.
Later in the day, at 2:00 pm, Bandfest 3 will commence, featuring another set of accomplished bands. The lineup includes the Pasadena City College Herald Trumpets and Tournament of Roses Honor Band, both returning for another performance. Other bands include the Toho Marching Band, Niceville High School’s Eagle Pride Marching Band, Pipes on Parade: The Massed Pipes & Drums, the LAUSD All District High School Honor Band, and the “Blue and Gold Marching Machine.”
Tickets to the event are sold online through Sharp Seating Company at sharpseating.com. Advance tickets are recommended as these events frequently sell out. Free parking is available onsite in the Lot 4 parking structure on Del Mar Avenue.
