Two members of Troop 1, a Boy Scouts of America troop in Altadena, were officially recognized with the highest Scout honor, the rank of Eagle Scout, during a ceremony held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church last Saturday, July 23.
Troop 1 Committee Chair Craig Snodgrass served as the master of ceremonies and with Scout Master Don Matsumoto presented the Eagle Scout awards to Glendale resident Mitchell Dudas and Altadena resident Henry Lindholm.
Over 60 people attended the event, according to Snodgrass. Senator Anthony Portantino also joined the ceremony and made a presentation on behalf of the California State Senate and Altadena Town Councilmember Nic Arnzen.
“Our journeys in Troop 1 have included so many rewarding, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. We are truly grateful to the troop, its present and past leadership, the local dignitaries, family, friends and the community for being present at the final celebration of our scouting experience,” Dudas and Lindholm said in a joint statement.
The rank of Eagle Scout can be earned by a scout who has led community service projects and has earned a minimum of 21 merit badges.
“Both of these young men have participated on several community projects to include their Eagle scout project that they each did individually, as well as several, numerous, outdoor adventures in the local San Gabriels here, as well as the Sierra mountains.”
“And in addition to all of that, of course, they have to have performed successfully in their positions of responsibility, as well as achieved 21 merit badges,” said Snodgrass.
Troop 1 has been offering scouting experiences to youth throughout the San Gabriel Valley for over a hundred years.
Troop 1 holds the Andrew Blackwood Memorial Blood Drive annually. Its Scouts can also frequently be seen supporting local events such as the Altadena Library Used Book sale, the Pasadena Heritage Colorado St. Bridge Party, and refurbishment at the Pasadena Playhouse.
