The 2023 MLS regular season opener between LAFC and LA Galaxy at the Rose Bowl has been postponed due to inclement weather and forecasted thunderstorms in the Los Angeles area.

Major League Soccer, the LA Galaxy and LAFC announced the decision on Friday, a day before the scheduled match. A new date for the game will be announced later.

Tickets for Saturday’s game will be honored for the rescheduled date. Ticket holders can contact their original point of sale for more information.

LAFC are looking to defend their MLS Cup title after beating Philadelphia in a thrilling final last season. LA Galaxy are hoping to bounce back from a disappointing campaign that saw them miss the playoffs.

LAFC also became the first MLS club to reach $1 billion in value earlier this month, according to Forbes.

Both teams have a long history of challenging each other and the rivalry promises to be an exciting one.

The LA Galaxy and LAFC matchup, nicknamed El Trafico, has become one of MLS’ highest-profile rivalries since LAFC joined the league in 2018, ESPN reported.

“This rivalry has, from day one, delivered an energy and electricity that together with incredible moments and memories on the pitch, has established it among the most engaging not only in Los Angeles but across MLS,” LAFC Co-President & CBO Larry Freedman said.
