The Municipal Services Payment Center, Parking Office and Permit Center will be closed Monday. The Permit Center will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday, and online permitting services will remain available through Permit Center Online for subtrade permits and plan submittals for new construction, tenant improvements, accessory dwelling units and additions.
The Pasadena City Council will not meet Monday. The next City Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 8.
Pasadena Police and Fire departments will remain staffed for patrol, jail, fire, paramedic and other emergency services. Residents should call 9-1-1 for life-threatening emergencies and may report suspicious activity to the Police Department at (626) 744-4241.
Nonessential federal offices, California state offices, and Los Angeles County offices will all be closed for the holiday on Monday.
Transportation and parking
Pasadena Transit Route 33 will operate on a Sunday schedule Monday, May 25. All other Pasadena Transit routes and Dial-A-Ride service will not run on Memorial Day, and regular local service is expected to resume Tuesday, May 26.
Metro buses and trains should be checked by line before travel. Metro’s published schedules identify holiday schedules for Memorial Day, and the Metro schedule page provides current bus and rail timetables for route-by-route trip planning.
Parking meters not posted as “No Parking” will be free Monday, and time limits will not be enforced. The city will still enforce violations for overnight parking, red curb parking, posted “No Parking” zones and blocking fire hydrants. Regular parking enforcement resumes Tuesday, May 26.
Postal and package services
U.S. Postal Service retail facilities will be closed Monday, and regular residential and business mail delivery will be suspended. USPS said Priority Mail Express service will continue where available.
UPS lists Memorial Day as a holiday with no UPS pickup or delivery service, though UPS Express Critical remains available. UPS Store locations are independently operated, so hours can vary and customers should check their local store before going.
FedEx lists Memorial Day as a holiday affecting major services, including FedEx Express and FedEx Ground. FedEx customers should check service-specific schedules before shipping time-sensitive packages.
Financial services
Most major banks, including Chase and other national banks that follow the Federal Reserve calendar, will close on Monday. The Federal Reserve lists Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, 2026, among its holidays, and Chase’s published holiday schedule says U.S. offices are generally closed for Memorial Day and that Chase will not process transactions on days Federal Reserve banks and branches are closed.
Local credit unions will also observe the holiday. Pasadena Federal Credit Union lists Monday, May 25, as a full-day closure for Memorial Day, and Priority One Credit Union lists Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2026, as a holiday closure. ATMs, debit cards and online banking are generally available, but deposits, payments and other transactions that rely on Federal Reserve processing may post the next business day.
The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed Monday for Memorial Day. The U.S. bond market also observes the holiday, and regular market operations resume Tuesday, May 26. Online brokerage platforms may remain accessible, but real-time trading in closed U.S. markets will not occur until markets reopen.

Pasadena Unified School District schools and offices will be closed Monday for Memorial Day.
Pasadena City College says the campus will be closed. ArtCenter College of Design lists Memorial Day as a holiday with no class session.
All Pasadena Public Library branches will be closed Sunday, May 24, and Monday, May 25. Branches will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 26.
Recreation and waste services
All recreation and community centers operated by the city’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department will be closed Monday. Pasadena city parks will remain open for picnics, recreation and play on a first-come, first-served basis, but the city is not accepting site reservations for the holiday.
Trash, recycling and yard waste collection will proceed on the regular Monday schedule with no holiday delay. Bulky item pickups will not be available Monday.
Retail and business
Many grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants and major retailers in Pasadena are expected to be open Monday, but shoppers should confirm hours with the specific location before leaving home. Official location pages showed regular or location-specific operating hours for Pasadena-area Vons and Whole Foods stores, while holiday hours can vary for store departments such as pharmacies, prepared foods counters and in-store services.
At Vons at 155 California Blvd., the store page lists daily grocery hours of 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.; the same page lists the pharmacy as closed on Mondays, so pharmacy customers should plan ahead or verify prescription pickup options. Whole Foods Market Pasadena, 3751 E. Foothill Blvd., lists store hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and separate hours for in-store eateries and counters.
Pharmacy chains and big-box retailers often keep stores open on Memorial Day but may operate with modified department hours. CVS and Walgreens customers should confirm their nearest store and pharmacy hours through the companies’ store locators, and shoppers headed to Target, Best Buy, Home Depot or a nearby Lowe’s should check the individual location page before traveling.
Old Pasadena and The Paseo are open-air shopping and dining districts where individual merchant and restaurant hours vary. Visit Pasadena advises visitors to check individual venue websites or call ahead because holiday hours may vary.
Restaurants are likely to be mixed. Many will open for the holiday weekend, especially in Old Pasadena, Playhouse Village, South Lake and The Paseo, but independently owned restaurants may shorten hours or close for staff scheduling. Diners should make reservations or call before going.
Memorial Day ceremony and events
Pasadena’s official Memorial Day Remembrance is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 25, at Memorial Park, 85 E. Holly St. The public ceremony will honor 320 Pasadena community members killed in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the War on Terror.
