We had great sushi here during the Christmas rush and none of the items were more than $2.95. That included a dragon roll, a salmon roll and other specialties. These were perfectly presented, and tasted deliciously fresh and filling. Were we not on deadline, we’d easily have sampled every sushi item in the place.
Peter Kim and his family originally opened Tenno Sushi in Little Tokyo more than 20 years ago, and the spot quickly grew in popularity. They set their sights on Pasadena and found that there were more than a few Japanese restaurants already here. They devised a unique “fusion restaurant, something simple and fast,†for both locals and tourists, said Kim. So, not only does the menu feature remarkably good sushi and sashimi, but there are tacos, too!
The tacos are filled with tender grilled shrimp and topped with tomato, cabbage, cilantro along with the traditional crema sauce. There are a host of traditional Japanese restaurant items as well, including chicken, beef and pork teriyaki as well as bbq beef short ribs.
Flat out, this is a great place to go when you’re hungry. There is a wide variety of food items and the prices are frankly, almost unbelievable. The grilled fish starts at $7.95, the taco combo is $6.95, sushi ranges from $2.95 to $7.95, and the sashimi is a mere $6.95 to $7.95 for five pieces.
Does this get better? Yes, it does. They’re open on New Years’ Day! Once the parade has moved on around noon, and the fences begin to come down, the doors will open.
This could be your easiest New Year’s resolution.
Tenno Sushi and Seafood Grill is at 124 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena. (626) 584-1120.
