Pasadena police, investigating two alleged cases of sexual assault by a Pasadena licensed marriage and family therapist, on Thursday released the accused’s photograph with an appeal to any other potential victims to come forward.

The suspect, Edgar Gustavo Villamarin, has an office located in the 100 block of Orange Place in Pasadena. Though his license to practice was once revoked two decades ago for unknown reasons, it was reinstated in 1998 and is currently valid through October 2020. He was first licensed in 1982.

The investigations against Villamarin were launched on November 17, 2018, when a woman reported to police she was sexually assaulted during an appointment with Villamarin the day before at his office.

Follow up by Pasadena detectives yielded corroborating evidence of the sexual assault allegation. Villamarin was arrested for sexual battery last November 27.

He posted $25,000 bond hours after his arrest and was released with an arraignment date of January 10, 2019.

Detectives taking a closer look at Villamarin discovered an earlier case from January 11, 2016, with similar allegations of sexual assault alleged by another woman. The second victim had also alleged a sexual assault occurred at Villamarin’s office during a scheduled appointment.

On January 9, 2019 the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office filed the following charges for both documented incidents against Villamarin; two counts of assault with intent to commit a felony, two counts of false imprisonment by violence, two counts of sexual battery by restraint, and one count of attempted sexual battery by restraint.
Bail was set at $450,000.

Villamarin was arraigned on all charges on January 10 and once again, posted bail and was released. The new arraignment date is set for February 28, 2019.
Police are now publicizing the case, asking if anyone who has been a victim of a crime committed by Villamarin to contact the Pasadena Police Department immediately.

Information about these cases or any other unreported incidents involving Villamarin should be reported to Detective Matt Crawford at (626) 744-3861 or Pasadena Police Dispatch at (626) 744-4241.
