It’s just hours away from the moment that the Peoria, Illinois City Hall could take down Pasadena’s City Hall in a nationwide “beautiful city hall” contest sponsored by Engage Local Government Leaders (ELGL).
Pasadena is currently leading, but a prominent local who refused to be publicly identified urged Pasadenans to overwhelm the vote to counter what he referred to as “those sneaky Peorians.”

Pasadena officials are urging Pasadenans to vote today for our City Hall. The absolute deadline is midnight. If you comment about Pasadena City Hall after you vote, apparently your vote triples, a city official noted.
The online City Hall Challenge pits city halls around the country against each other, to see which one gets the most votes for being iconic or beautiful.
At stake in the competition is the Leslie B. Knope Greatest City Hall Trophy, named after the fictional main character in the TV sitcom “Parks and Rec” played by comedy actress Amy Poehler.
Ironically many of the exterior shots of the government building for the sitcom’s fictional city of Pawnee, Indiana, as well as many of the hallway shots, were filmed at Pasadena City Hall.
The winner will also get a complimentary membership in the ELGL organization which includes unlimited job postings for the year and extreme bragging rights.
ELGL says it is a group of innovative local government leaders with a passion for connecting, communicating and educating.
The competition has been on over the past four weeks, with ELGL members and friends narrowing down the field from 64 to four. Pasadena is paired against Peoria, Illinois in the bracket-style competition.
