Pasadena-based Pankow Builders gathered its 220+ company-wide employees throughout California last month to attend learning workshops, develop leadership skills and build camaraderie, and to build playhouses for children.
On Friday, April 29th, Pankow partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles for its Playhouse Build Program, where the employees went through an enjoyable volunteer experience as they build useable and durable playhouses. The program also provided a memorable and enjoyable team building opportunity for Pankow employees whose goal is “to inspire, engage and excite with one another.”
The completed playhouses will be donated to the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity (SGV Habitat) and will benefit the local San Gabriel Valley community.
Headquartered in Pasadena, Pankow has an established partnership with SGV Habitat since the early 2000s. While its Pankow ambassador has changed hands over the years – starting with Project Executive Emily O. Nochez to Regional Operations Director Calvin Yoshida to Senior Superintendent William “Red” Ward to former Chief Estimator Bob Law – Pankow’s has shown unwavering dedication in supporting its local communities through SGV Habitat.
Since 2009, Senior Superintendent Amanda Gallagher has worked closely with SGV Habitat through its renovation programs, Brush with Kindness, and its new construction projects, including the Geneva and Chestnut Home projects in Glendale.
Gallagher spearheads all of Pankow’s local volunteer opportunities with SGV Habitat and serves on the SGV Construction Committee outside of Pankow.
“As managers and engineers, we don’t always have the opportunity to physically work with our hands and get a little dirty,” Gallagher said. “Working with SGV Habitat allows us to go beyond the daily grind of our computer screens, drawings and details – and actually build something tangible ourselves.”
Pankow President and COO Dave Eichten says the company looks forward to continuing the relationship with SGV Habitat over the coming years.
“As a local builder based in San Gabriel Valley, it makes sense for Pankow to be involved with SGV Habitat,” Eichten said. “We all have a great time learning new skills and developing leadership skills – with diverse tasks that vary from our day-to-day jobs. Pankow is a proud partner of SGV Habitat and we are happy to embark on a new partnership with Habitat LA.”
