After two years of holding the prayer breakfast virtually, the 49th annual Pasadena Mayor’s Interfaith Prayer Breakfast is back in-person on Thursday, May 5 with award-winning novelist and Pasadena City College (PCC) alumna Reyna Grande as keynote speaker.

The breakfast coincides with the National Day of Prayer.

The Interfaith Prayer Breakfast is open to not only people of multiple faiths, but also to business people, nonprofits and community residents.

Grande is the author of the bestselling memoir, “The Distance Between Us”  where she writes about her life before and after she arrived in the United States from Mexico as an undocumented child immigrant.

Grande enrolled at PCC in 1994. In 1996, she transferred to University of California Santa Cruz to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in creative writing and film and video.

Grande is set to release this June an anthology about undocumented Americans called “Somewhere We Are Human: Authentic Voices on Migration, Survival and New Beginnings.”

Previous keynote speakers of Pasadena Mayor’s Interfaith Prayer Breakfast include Dr. Thomas Rosenbaum, President and CEO of California Institute of Technology and  Dr. Niki Elliott, Clinical Professor and Co-Director, Center for Neurodiversity, Learning, and Wellness at the University of La Verne.
