National Weather Service forecasters are predicting a weather roller coaster for the days leading up to New Year’s Rose Parade, with light to moderate rain through Saturday, a dry Sunday until evening, and the possibility of light rain in Pasadena during the morning hours of the Parade itself.
“There is … a chance of light rain in Pasadena on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day,” the NWS said. The Service said the light rain — if it falls — would come before 10 a.m. The Rose Parade steps off at 8 a.m.
The Rose Parade has reportedly been rained on only 10 times in its history. The years in which the parade experienced rain are 1895, 1899, 1906, 1910, 1916, 1922, 1934, 1937, 1955, and 2006.
Despite the rain, the parade has never been canceled due to weather conditions and continues rain or shine
This weekend daytime temperatures continue to fall. New Year’s Day is expected to top out at a chilly 63, slightly colder than the historical average of 67°. (The highest temperature ever recorded in Pasadena on January 1st was 86° in 1918.)
Current nights will be in the mid-40s.. Officials recommend Paradegoers bundle up and dress in layers of warm clothing.
