Five-Year Rose Parade, Rose Bowl Game Policing Deal Goes Before Supervisors Tuesday

Los Angeles County supervisors take up a five-year agreement Tuesday to send sheriff’s deputies to Pasadena for the Tournament of Roses Parade and the Rose Bowl Game.

The deal would run from execution through June 30, 2031, covering Dec. 31 through Jan. 1 each year, or Jan. 2 when New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday — which it does not during the term. Pasadena pays.

Item 63 asks the board to approve the agreement and instruct Board Chair Hilda L. Solis to execute it. It falls in Supervisorial District 5.

The agreement sets no price. Hourly rates sit in Exhibit A, set by the county Auditor-Controller and readjusted every July 1. The proposed action would let the Sheriff execute rate amendments without returning to the board, though Section 8.0 requires both the county and the city to sign. Annual compensation may not exceed $2,100,000 per fiscal year without Pasadena City Council authorization.

Pasadena’s council authorized its side June 8, approving up to $10.5 million over five years, budgeted in the city’s New Year’s Day Fund. For the 2027 parade and game, the draft agreement estimates 1,039 personnel and 11,606 hours at $1,499,627.72.
