On Tuesday, April 25 Alverno Heights Academy’s Class of 2019 received their class rings during their Ring Ceremony.

The time-honored tradition of Ring Ceremony at Alverno Heights Academy took place on the terrace of the historic Villa del Sol d’Oro and provides the class with the opportunity to look back at their first two years at Alverno while looking forward to their last two as upper classmen.

Sophomore State Governor Cami Lee ’19 and Lieutenant Governor Zeinab Hemdan ’19 began the Ring Ceremony with a welcome to the Class of 2019 and their guests. This was followed by a prayer presented by Elisia Bendy ’19.

Letters were then read to the Alverno Community by Kate Bolin ’19 and Caroline Dragos ’19, to the parents of the Class of 2019 by Aaliyah Solis-Castillo ’19, and to the Class of 2019 by Beatriz Rivas ’19.

After listening to these beautiful and intentional letters, the Class of 2019 were presented with their rings by Julia V. Fanara, Head of School, who spoke not just about the memory of Ring Ceremony but also the memories that each ring will carry for these young women for the rest of their lives. Each member of the class received a ring she had personally designed herself, which included aspects of her personality as well as her life at Alverno Heights Academy.

Following the presentation of the rings, Briana De Anda ’19 sang “Lemonade” by Jeremy Passion for the reflection as Precious Perlas ’19 accompanied her on the ukulele. Maritza DiRito also performed a song, choosing to dedicate the song “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus to her classmates.

Governor Cami Lee ’19 and Lieutenant Governor Zeinab Hemdan ’19 closed the ceremony with a final prayer and a special thank you to Mr. Tim Lewis P’19 and Ms. Lisa Primero-Solano, Sophomore State Moderators, as well as Ms. Julia V. Fanara, Head of School. The girls concluded the evening by holding their rings up high as they proudly sang the Alverno Heights Academy Alma Mater.

“Ring Ceremony is such a wonderful part of the tradition at Alverno Heights Academy,” said Julia V. Fanara, Head of School. “In two short years, these young women have grown into exceptional leaders and scholars who have found an empowered voice at Alverno. We congratulate them as they transition to a new part of their student life here. We cannot wait to see what they accomplish over the next two years and the incredible women they become!”

About Alverno Heights Academy

Alverno Heights Academy is an all-girls, independent, progressive Catholic, college preparatory school dedicated to its mission of empowering each young woman to be exactly the person she wants to be. Located on the property of the former Barlow Estate in Sierra Madre, California, Alverno Heights Academy was founded in 1960 by the Sisters of St. Francis who sought to create an environment in the San Gabriel Valley where young women could become informed and knowledgeable persons. Later renamed Alverno High School and sponsored by the Immaculate Heart Community, Alverno’s program—academic, spiritual, aesthetic, social, and physical – has been shaped by the staff, trustees, and students. As Alverno Heights Academy once again, the school remains committed to its mission by encouraging each of their young women to be who they imagine.
