
Assistant City Manager Steve Mermell has been appointed by City Manager Michael J. Beck as interim director of the Pasadena Public Health Department. Mermell will temporarily provide overall guidance to the department while the city undertakes a national search for the position.
Beck made the announcement through the city manager’s news letter released on Thursday, May 29.
Mermell earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration from California State University-Northridge. He has been a Pasadena city employee since 1989, working his way up the ranks from an administrative analyst at Pasadena Water and Power.
In the Finance Department, Mermell served as purchasing administrator, budget administrator and deputy director of finance before achieving his current position of assistant city manager.
