The City of Pasadena has released recommendations for residents charging e-bikes and e-scooters safely at home.

The tips address growing concerns about battery fires. Pasadena urges residents to charge devices in well-ventilated spaces where smoke alarms are installed. Rooms should be kept free from exits and flammable materials.

“Keep away from exits, flammable items, and bedrooms,” the city stated in its guidance posted on social media.

Residents should use only the charger designed for their specific device. Never leave charging devices unattended. Never charge while sleeping, the city advised.

The recommendations came during Fire Prevention Week. The city encouraged residents to practice caution beyond the annual awareness period. “There are still 51 more weeks in a year to charge into fire safety,” the city said in the statement.

Pasadena joins other communities raising awareness about e-device battery hazards.
