Pasadena’s Design Commission will discuss on Tuesday an application for Final Design Review by Heritage Housing Partners LLC to build a new two-to-four-story, 58-unit multi-family residential building with subterranean parking at 1870-1890 E. Walnut Street, 175 N. Greenwood Ave., and 170 N. Parkwood Ave.
The residential condominium project will have one- to three-bedroom homes, and a mix of flats and townhouses priced for moderate- and workforce-income households, plans submitted to the Department of Planning and Community Development showed.
The building will be equipped with solar power systems, and will feature private patios, two courtyards with BBQ’s and large trees, two community rooms, ample and secure bike parking, and a gated subterranean parking garage.
A staff report by the Planning Department said the project involves the demolition of the commercial automotive buildings and the single-family residence that are currently on the site, to give way for the construction of the 58-unit multi-family residential development with a gross area of about 81,680 square feet.
A tree inventory showed there are a total of eight on-site trees, one of which is protected, and two public street trees. The applicant is proposing to remove all non-protected trees, and retain the protected tree. No street trees will be removed, the report said.
One level of subterranean parking with 97 spaces is also proposed.
A total of eight one-to-four-story buildings, arranged atop a garden podium, with two centralized open-air courtyards, will be constructed. Entry to the parking garage is to be located at the southeast corner of the site, off of North Greenwood Ave.
The Design Commission approved the project’s application for Concept Design Review on July 13, 2021, with a total of eight conditions of approval. These conditions will be further explained at the Design Commission’s special meeting Tuesday.
“Staff recommends that the Commission approve the application for Final Design Review with conditions described in this report, which will be further reviewed by staff during Building Plan Check,” the Planning Department said in their report.
