Caltrans will be closing the westbound Foothill Freeway (I-210) between Lake Avenue and Mountain Street in Pasadena for 55 hours on two separate weekends as part of construction activities. The eastbound SR-134 connector to the westbound I-120 will also be closed.
The closures will be from Friday, July 15, at 10 p.m. through Monday, July 18, at 5 a.m., and another one from Friday, July 29, at 10 p.m. through Monday, August 1, at 5 a.m. The closures are weather-permitting and subject to change.
Caltrans said the closures are part of a $148.5 million pavement rehabilitation project in both directions of I-210 in the cities of Glendale, La Cañada Flintridge and Pasadena. Once the project is completed in 2018, the new surface will provide a smoother drive for motorists, reduce time required for maintenance and minimize the need for further lane closures.
Detour signs will be posted at nearby intersections for motorists’ information. Motorists may experience delays and are advised to avoid the area, use alternate routes and check traffic conditions before traveling.
“Pasadena remains open for business and welcomes everyone to visit, dine and shop here instead of being stuck in freeway traffic!” points out the City of Pasadena’s information point man, William Boyer.
Caltrans also reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” Every year, more than 1,000 workers and motorists die in highway work zone crashes and more than 40,000 are injured. Fines of $1,000 or more can be given for work zone violations.
