Pasadena is participating in the state’s Great Plates Delivered initiative.
In partnership with local restaurants, the city will provide three home-delivered meals per day to qualifying older adults.
The program helps seniors 65 and older, and adults 60-64 at high risk for the Coronavirus.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to support some of our most vulnerable residents and help local businesses during the Safer at Home order. While LA County also has a Great Plates Delivered program, we wanted to create a local program to best meet the needs of our community,” said Pasadena City Manager Steve Mermell.
Individual participants may apply for Great Plates Delivered at www.cityofpasadena.net/great-plates or by calling (626) 744-7311. Participants must meet eligibility requirements, including age and inability to prepare or obtain meals, and must not be getting assistance from other state or federal nutrition assistance programs.
Restaurants and other food providers interested in participating should fill out an interest form. They’ll be selected based on their ability to meet volume and nutritional standards; source locally; prioritize worker retention, health and safety; and ensure standards of equity and fairness in employment practices.
Program costs will be initially paid by the city, 75 percent of which will be eligible for reimbursement by FEMA and 18.75 percent by the state. Pasadena’s final share of the expense will be 6.25 percent.
The program will run until June 10, 2020, and the state will seek two additional 30-day extensions from FEMA to try to extend Great Plates Delivered to as late as August 10.
