First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Pasadena will commemorate its sesquicentennial of community service with a free, family-friendly festival showcasing the city’s diverse cultural heritage this month.
The November 16 celebration, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will transform the historic church grounds into a multicultural gathering space featuring performances and interactive demonstrations.
Visitors can experience traditional Japanese tea ceremonies, witness Tongva artistic presentations, and enjoy Filipino dance performances by the Johannes Line Dancing and Cultural Group.
The church’s musical legacy will be highlighted through performances by its choir and handbell ensemble, alongside youth musicians from the Verdugo Youth Symphony and School of Rock.
Children’s activities will include a bounce house, games, crafts, and soccer programming provided by partnering organizations Los Angeles Football Association and Los Angeles Soccer Club, while martial artists demonstrate Jiu-Jitsu techniques.
Local vendors such as Vivi’s Gourmet, Homeboy Bakery, Tepito’s Coffee Service and Yoga-Gurt will offer refreshments to festival attendees throughout the four-hour event.
The celebration will feature informational booths highlighting Pasadena’s history and the church’s partnerships with prominent local organizations, including The Armory Center for the Arts, Learning Works/Grow Works and The Planetary Society.
FUMC describes itself as “a welcoming and loving community” of Christian faith that seeks to be people who worship God” with open hearts, open minds and open doors,” according to a church statement.
Community leaders are scheduled to speak about the church’s contributions to Pasadena over its 150-year history during the anniversary celebration, where all activities will be free.
