Kaiser Permanente Provides PUSD with Funding for District’s Campus Health Centers

Kaiser Permanente, through its Community Benefit Grants Program, has provided funding for nurse practitioners in the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD). The $25,000 donation made to the Pasadena Educational Foundation (PEF), will help to pay salaries of nurse practitioners in the PUSD’s Student Health Services Program.

Nurse Practitioners provide an array of health services to underserved populations through the district’s Health Clinic and the PUSD Family Centers, located at five district schools.

“The PUSD Student Health Services Project is one that has demonstrated positive results for our students and their families,” says Joan Fauvre, PEF’s executive director. “Kaiser’s donation will help to make sure that school nurses are available to provide services at the most in-need school campuses that include Cleveland, Jackson, Madison, Loma Alta, and Rose City.”

The Student Health Services Project is a comprehensive school-based health program that has been developed by the PUSD over the last fifteen years. It is designed to serve children and families who face significant barriers to adequate health care and to serve them directly on the PUSD campuses. Through the program students and their families receive, free of charge, services that include comprehensive health and social services, linkages and referrals to other agencies, counseling, parent education and support groups, crisis intervention, and case management. The Family Centers work collaboratively with more than 45 local agencies in this project to help create healthy communities.
