LA County Seeks Public Input on 2027-28 Budget

Los Angeles County residents were asked Thursday to weigh in on priorities for county programs and services as officials begin planning the 2027-28 budget.

A series of online surveys will remain open through Oct. 31 and will be used to help develop the county’s fiscal year 2027-28 budget, according to county officials.

Residents can identify services they consider most important, recommend programs for increased or reduced funding, highlight underserved communities and geographic areas, propose new services and suggest ways to improve service delivery.

The surveys include a countywide questionnaire and individual surveys for each of the county’s 39 departments. Residents can complete surveys for as many departments as they choose.

“The County’s budget reflects its values. Our overarching goal in building the budget, especially during challenging times, is to ensure that we are maintaining safety net services and meeting the most essential needs of our communities,” county Chief Executive Officer Joseph M. Nicchitta said.

“That includes everything from health and mental health care to making sure elections are secure and transparent, from emergency operations to supporting our justice system. Getting a broad view of how the public thinks about and values these services is an important part of the County’s work.”

The surveys are anonymous unless respondents choose to provide their contact information. Responses will be reviewed by county departments and used in planning for the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2027.

The county’s recommended 2027-28 budget is scheduled to be presented to the Board of Supervisors in April.
