The National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) Greater Pasadena Area will host a virtual panel discussion on the parenting challenges being faced by mothers who serve in elected positions on May 18 at 6:30 p.m.

The discussion entitled “PolitiMoms on the Move: Parenting as a Candidate and Officeholder” is open to anyone interested in learning more about the unique experiences of women with families who are running for elected office or are an officeholder.

At the upcoming discussion, panelists will share experiences and insights on how they balance parenting and their political careers, said NWPC Greater Pasadena Area Chair Charlotte Bland.

Moms in Office founder Simon Grace, Santa Clara County Supervisor Susan Ellenburg, Pasadena Councilmember Jess Rivas and Pasadena City College Board President Sandra Chen Lau are among the panelists.

“Whether you are a parent considering running for an office yourself or simply interested in hearing from these incredible women, we’re hoping that everyone will join, because this will be informative and an inspiring discussion,” said Bland.

Bland stressed it is important for mothers to be represented in the government and be given the right tools for them to succeed.

“When women and parents are represented in government, policies that affect families are more likely to be created and implemented.”

Additionally, Bland said having diverse representation can help build trust and confidence in the government as people see leaders who look like themselves and understand their struggles.

“The importance of representation for women and parents in elected office cannot be overstated. When women and parents are in leadership positions, they bring unique perspectives and experiences to policy decisions, which can have a positive impact on the community as a whole.”
