While the Pasadena City College women’s volleyball team is in the final stages of a disappointing 2014 team season, the individual play of freshman outside hitter Lahiz Longobardi has stood out for the Lancers.

Longobardi totaled a season-high 26 kills with a .548 attack percentage as PCC posted a 25-19, 25-11, 25-17 sweep over Los Angeles Trade Tech Friday in a South Coast Conference match. The Lancers closed out their home schedule at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium, improving to 4-14 and 4-7 in conference play.

Longobardi, an international student from Brazil, passed the 200 kill mark and is in the top 35 in the state in kills per set at a 3.48 average. She reached the 20-kill plateau in a match for the fourth time this year.

“Lahiz has improved throughout the season and has proven to be one of the conference’s best hitters,” said PCC head coach Bill Sanchez. “Had we been a better passing team, her numbers would be that much better.”

Also for the Lancers, middle hitter Chy’annea Hodges recorded 12 kills, sophomore setter Megan Williams 42 assists, and second-year libero Sabrina Takeuchi had 15 digs. Freshman right side player Eugenia Mendez added 12 digs.

PCC next plays at Long Beach City College on Wednesday, Nov. 12 in a 6 p.m. match.
