Coroner’s officials on Friday released the identity of a 30-year-old man who died shortly after he was found suffering from severe burns in the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena on New Year’s Day.
Ulises Edenilson Nieto-Cabrera died shortly after a passer-by discovered him about 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, suffering from widespread burn injuries in the Arroyo Seco near the 700 block of Rockwood Road, according to Pasadena police and Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner officials.
A city of residence for Nieto-Cabrera was not clear. Prior to Friday, he had been listed at the coroner’s office as a John Doe.
An autopsy had been performed, but an official cause of death was yet to be determined pending the results of further forensic tests, according to coroner’s records.
Pasadena Police Department homicide detectives and Pasadena Fire Department arson investigators were working the investigation in tandem, according to police Lt. Carolyn Gordon. The case was labeled a “suspicious death.”
Further details regarding the circumstances of the death or the fire were not available.
Nieto-Cabrera was pronounced dead at a hospital about two hours after he was found, officials said.
