A memorial service for Ann Erdman, Pasadena’s longtime public information officer and a beloved civic voice, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, at All Saints Church in Pasadena, her family has announced. A reception will follow the service.

Erdman, who passed away earlier this year, served as the City of Pasadena’s Director of Public Affairs and Public Information Officer from 1991 to 2012, becoming one of the most trusted communicators in local government.

Known for her calm, compassionate presence and deep commitment to public service, she was also a mentor, storyteller, and behind-the-scenes bridge-builder.

“Ann was more than a dedicated public servant. She was a storyteller, a connector, and a quiet force behind so much of what made Pasadena shine,” said Mayor Victor Gordo when the City Council adjourned in Erdman’s honor. “Pasadena has lost a beloved voice and a civic treasure.”

Before coming to Pasadena, Erdman served as the spokeswoman for the City of Palm Springs and worked in advertising and public relations for more than a decade, building her foundation in the private sector. Her skillful use of communication not only informed the public but helped build trust between residents, media, and government.

Erdman was also known for her work on Citybeat, Pasadena’s local public access program, where she facilitated dialogue on key civic issues. From 2002 to 2007, she co-created and produced the Pasadena Follies, a variety show benefiting the Pasadena Senior Center, featuring mayors, broadcasters, and university presidents in satirical and joyful performances.

In 2012, she made local history by becoming the first person to ride in both the Rose Parade and the Doo Dah Parade, a reflection of her ability to balance professionalism with light-hearted civic spirit.

Even after her retirement, Erdman continued to serve as a consultant, helping nonprofits and agencies communicate with clarity and purpose.

She is remembered not just for her public service but for her mentorship, humor, and unwavering love for the city she called home.

All are welcome to attend the service and celebration of her life on July 12.
