Candidates for mayor will be attending two candidate forums next week, the first one sponsored by a number of local women’s organizations, the second hosted by the Pasadena NAACP.
From 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, Mayor Terry Tornek and challenger Councilmember Victor Gordo will debate the issues in a virtual setting in an event sponsored by the National Women’s Political Caucus of the Greater Pasadena Area, the League of Women Voters, the Junior League of Pasadena, 50/50 Leadership, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Eta Lambda Omega, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Pasadena Alumnae, SGV Community Women, and Vital Voices.
Then, at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, the Pasadena NAACP will host a mayoral forum focusing on issues that affect millennials and their families.
“During these unprecedented times, it is important that as the next generation of leaders, millennials continue to remain politically engaged about issues that are affecting their peers,” said Allen Edson, who leads the Pasadena NAACP.
The Pasadena NAACP has partnered with two up and coming millennial organizations — HOOD Liberation and Pasadena Young Leaders.
“As the only group that has increased in voter turnout since 2012, it is important for us to be able to provide the opportunity for our peers to hear what the mayoral candidates have to say regarding issues that are affecting millennials and their families. As the next generation of leaders in the Pasadena community, it is important that our voices are heard and that the mayoral candidates know that we are actively engaged in the process,” Edson said.
