A new residential facility is set to open its doors, offering hope and specialized care for a often overlooked group in addiction recovery.

The Los Angeles Centers for Alcohol & Drug Abuse (L.A. CADA) will unveil Serenity House, an 18-bed center in Altadena dedicated to treating adults who identify as LGBTQ+ and struggle with substance abuse or mental health issues.

This facility, nestled on a spacious acre of land at 1092 New York Drive, represents a significant step forward in addressing the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community in their journey to recovery.

The facility will hold its grand opening ceremony on Monday, Nov. 4. Serenity House will offer comprehensive addiction recovery and mental health services tailored specifically to gay, lesbian, bi, trans, intersex, non-binary, two spirit, and queer individuals.

“We are committed to providing equitable access to quality care for every individual, and Serenity House is a testament to our dedication to supporting the Transgender Community,” Juan Navarro, L.A. CADA CEO, said.

The facility will offer specialized services including holistic care plans, peer support, and access to culturally competent therapeutic resources, according to L.A. CADA.

Serenity House is part of L.A. CADA’s LGBTQ Services, which includes a continuum of care ranging from Withdrawal Management (ASAM 3.2) to Recovery Support (ASAM 0.5). ASAM stands for the American Society of Addiction Medicine, which developed criteria for determining appropriate levels of care.

The program is licensed and certified by the State of California’s Department of Health Care Services and funded through a generous grant from the state.

L.A. CADA said Serenity House is the only Medi-Cal funded substance use disorder treatment program in California designed specifically for transgender, intersex, and non-binary participants.

The grand opening ceremony takes place between 9 and 11:30 a.m., featuring facility tours, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and networking opportunities with refreshments and raffle prizes.

Special guests at the event will include Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger and Los Angeles County Assessor Jeffrey Prang.

L.A. CADA also operates three transitional “bridge” housing programs in Pasadena and Altadena, exclusively serving the LGBTQ+ community with over 50 beds.

The organization’s enthusiastic, dedicated, and highly diverse staff includes licensed medical and clinical professionals, certified and registered counselors, care coordinators, and certified peer support specialists.

L.A. CADA is committed to fostering holistic healing and inclusivity, supporting individuals and families in overcoming the challenges of substance use and co-occurring disorders.
