Pasadena City Council Dark on Monday

The Pasadena City Council meeting scheduled for Monday, January 29 has been canceled. The decision was made in the interest of “meeting efficiency and optimal use of city resources,” a City official said.

The agenda items for the canceled meeting will be deferred to the council’s next meeting on February 5. No public hearings were scheduled for the January 29 meeting.

The City Council is also set to cancel two meetings in February. It will reconvene on February 26, just days before the Mayor’s annual State of the City speech.

According to the city charter, the Mayor is required to present a thematic budget message for the upcoming fiscal year to the City Council no later than February.

In related news, the amended operating agreement between the City and the Rose Bowl Operating Company (RBOC) is expected to be presented to the City Council early next month. The new agreement, which requires the approval of the City Council, would permit the stadium to host 25 ‘displacement’ events annually for the next decade, including 10 music festival dates. Other potential events could include soccer matches and concerts.

Before the full City Council deliberates on the matter, the new agreement is likely to be evaluated by the City Council’s Economic Development and Technology Committee.

If approved, the agreement would allow the stadium to hold more events, potentially boosting revenue at the iconic venue.
