Pasadena, long known for its blend of cultural and scientific institutions, is set to play a pivotal role in the return a Southern California’s art and science spectacular, the Getty Foundation-funded initiative, Pacific Standard Time (PST) ART: Art & Science Collide.

The event will launch on September 15 and run until February 16, 2025.

It’s part of a larger initiative involving more than 45 cultural organizations across Southern California that will feature contributions from over 800 artists across more than 70 exhibitions. It aims to explore the intersections of art and science through a series of exhibitions and public programs.

A number of renowned Pasadena institutions are participating in the initiative. These include the California Institute of Technology, The Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens, ArtCenter College of Design, Kidspace Children’s Museum, Armory Center for the Arts, and USC Pacific Asia Museum.

The Armory Center for the Arts will present “From the Ground Up,” focusing on seed narratives. The Huntington Library will host “Growing and Knowing in the Gardens of China” and “Storm Cloud: Picturing the Origins of Our Climate Crisis,” addressing sustainability and climate change.

In line with the event’s scientific focus, the Getty’s Climate Impact Program is supporting participating institutions in adopting sustainable practices. The initiative will tackle pressing issues such as climate change, artificial intelligence, and environmental justice.

According to the official PST ART website, the event will kick off with a fireworks display at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, choreographed with artificial intelligence, marking the official start of this landmark arts event.
